The excitement was palpable as the Northgate High School girls' volleyball team kicked off tryouts for the new season. Around 80 determined girls showed up, all vying for a coveted spot on one of the three teams: varsity, junior varsity (JV), and freshman. With only 45 total spots available, the competition was fierce.
The coaching staff, led by Coaches Grace Lau , Ana Jakolevjevic, Paris Haraguchi, Tanner Pemberton, and Patrick and Jenn Philips had a challenging task ahead of them. Evaluating each player's skills, work ethic, and teamwork, they carefully selected the best fit for each team. The girls gave it their all, diving for spikes and serving with precision.
However, this year's tryouts came with an added layer of complexity. A last-minute league change modified the team structure, eliminating the combined freshman and sophomore team from last year. Instead, the league would feature a standalone freshman team. This change had a ripple effect on the JV team, which would now have to be more selective in its roster.
The JV team, typically a mix of sophomores and freshmen, would have to adapt to a more competitive environment. With the freshman team taking shape, the JV squad would need to focus on developing players who could step up to the varsity level in the future.
After a grueling tryout process, the coaching staff announced the final rosters. The varsity team would be led by returning players Kiera Everist, Makenna Kissak, Caprice Campanelli, Julia Jensen, Tini Rinaudo, & Evelyn Alexander who are expected to make a strong impact on the season. The JV team would be looking to new players Isabella Victa and Bebe Smith to bring fresh energy to the squad.
The freshman team, comprised of talented newcomers, would be coached by Patrick and Jenn Philips. They would look to make a strong impression in their inaugural season as a standalone team.
As the season gets underway, the Northgate High School girls' volleyball team is ready to take on the challenge. With determination, hard work, and teamwork, they're poised to make a lasting impression on the league.
The season is off to a thrilling start, and fans can't wait to see these talented young athletes in action. Let's go Broncos!
